The reason I bought this purifier is that the HEPA filter is permanent.  Instructions say just vacuum it. This model,  TrueAir&reg; Compact Pet Air Purifier (04384), has additional carbon filters that should be replaced every 3 months, but you can use it with out these.

Yes, everything with a HEPA filter reduces dust. Where the description talks about particles down to 3 microns, that's how small the dust is that it will catch. "True HEPA" generally catches the smallest particles, including pet dander and dustmite debris. "HEPA type" is also good at catching most dust, but generally not very the finest particles. For me either one is fine, since I'm not allergic to pets and live above 5,000 feet in elevation, where there aren't a lot of dust mites.

The best part of this purifier is that you dont have tobuy a new filter every three months, bonus. They read my mind.
Three settings, just got it, but it makes great ambient noise. You choose how much sound you want.
Easy to put together, looks great and you have two options of how to place it, upright or flat.

Permanent Filter

I have many cats in three enclosures. I had bought 2 of these previously and liked them so much I ordered a third for the third room. Make sure you get the "Pet Purifier"especially for pets because it has a pre filter that collects the hair (does not have to be replaced) and a charcoal filter that helps with the smell (they recommend to replace it but on line people say you can wash in soapy water,rinse and dry in sun) and then a HEPA filter (that can be vacuumed). I've had so many air purifiers and when it is time to change the filter you can never find the right one.

This was bought for my daughter and son in law who not only have pets but my grandson has allergies. He informed me last night since I bought this and gave it to them he hasn't been sneezing. WHOPPEE.....hope they keep it plugged in constantly as she told she unplugs it at night to conserve her light bill. Explained doesn't use hardly anything so hope she listened to me.

Perfect For My Family!

This is my second Hamilton Beach True Air - I still use my first one which is only for air filter, not Pet Air.   I ordered this Pet Air Purifier to use in my family room where my doggies hang out.  I'm really happy with the product and had no trouble inserting filters and setting it up.  A really good product.

Within only hours my husband and I noticed a significant difference in the air quality. It is only supposed to cover a space of 140sqft but our room is at least 300sqft and it the air is clean and clear and it smells so pleasant in there. Great air purifier. We want to buy 3 more.

I received this product during a late-starting but intense early allergy season in the Northeast, after a 5-day period of being awakened from sleep due to choking on postnasal drip despite taking several allergy meds. It brought instant relief. However, last night I had a return of the postnasal drip, but not to the level of waking me up. Today is rated high for indoor dust and dander (dry indoor air), trees low, grass and ragweed zero.

I purchased 2 of these for the sole purpose of pet hair removal. I immediately set them up in two different locations on the full setting. At that full setting for a week the only thing they caught was slight dust.  And I have a dusty house and golden retriever and a chauweenie and a cat. You have to put the hair right at the unit for it to even try to pull it in.  I am constantly vacuuming and thought this product would be a great addition to the work load. Nope Nope Nope it isn't. No I wouldn't recommend it for pet hair removal because all it does for me is air circulation not air cleaning.
